Sports- Something Out of Blue!

With the dazzle of Olympics slowly dimming away, I have finally found time to pen down my feelings. It was really a proud moment for me. Well, 7th August when Neeraj Chopra was throwing the javelin, I was sitting with my phone on one hand and my other fingers were literally crossed expressing so much of my anxiety as if I was playing the final games. Interestingly, Olympics worked like a strong magnet for me which stole away my online class breaks where I would be found busy checking the online dedicated blogs for the games.

I believe that this Olympics has cast a magical spell on me that has made me lose my mind in the charms of sports. I really laugh that the couch potato who not even likes moving a bit (being a bit hyperbolic here) has a feeling that sports run in her veins. This makes me somewhere admit that sports can be too addicting where people really vandalize stadiums and pass hate messages for some ethnical groups if their team loses. Sports can give an ordinary person a lot of fame immediately and can make a sports hero fall to zero in the eyes of the people.

This is quite ironical when people become so aggressive and indulge in insane activities. This leads to the production of rivalries between states and nations where people view defeat as an arrow aimed at their heart. They forget that one will win and the other lose. It is sometimes the sheer bad luck of the athlete on the big day. For instance, Mr. Webber, a javelin athlete was on his best form ensuring seven above 90m throws in this season  sadly failed to make it to the podium. Can you really blame him then? It was just that that day was not his day.

Remember the great words of a great person, Pierre de Coubertin- the founder of modern Olympics, "The most important thing in Olympics is not to win but to take part, as the important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well." These lines are simple yet deep. As a matter of fact we should pay respect to all the heroes of the Olympics who gave their cent percent and did their best for their motherland. All I can say is a big thank you to all the Olympians!
