Decline in Woman's Participation in Work Force: A Stone in India's Path to Success!

Dear Reader, (The views are entirely personal and is not intended to spread hatred towards any person.)   The recent developments in the fields like access to education, freedom, higher incomes and wages for woman are commendable for our country, but we are slowly inching towards a grave issue- reduction of woman in the country's workforce . While woman's literacy growth rate has seen a whooping  jump of 11.8% (Source: Wikipedia), woman's participation has fell to 21% in the recent years. By comparing our  figures with our neighbors like Sri Lanka's 33.7% and Bangladesh's 30.5%, we realize that we are very far behind.  Now let us dive into the reasons of why this problem is spreading its pangs into India. The boon of rising household incomes has turned out into a bane for active participation of woman into the rural workforce. When income increases, woman find it easier to take up their traditional and conventional roles of housekeeping. Unmarried women in the ...

Thoughts on Work Life Balance

Dear Readers, While reading the paper three days ago, the headline, 'Ashleigh Barty has decided to hang up her boots!' shocked me as it did tons of others. How could someone in the top for more than 100 weeks (~2 years) who just won two tournaments back to back and was in the prime of her carrier draw out? But when she pointed out to mental and physical exertion as the obvious reasons, my respect for her thoughts were immense. To me, it also brought out a raw yet subtle truth to the picture, success grinds you to exhaustion. People overwork and never give themselves a comma to rest and revive. A time comes when full stop becomes the reality.  Sadly, even my favorite boy band, One Direction is on a indefinite hiatus because the boys couldn't strike a well balanced work-life relationship. They were on back to back sold out world tours, concerts, recordings and practice sessions that they had barely a few days for themselves. The life looks glamorous in the media but only th...

Reservations: Spilling my Heart Out!

When you are lukewarm about an entrance exam and a notification pops up showing that the already skyrocketing reservations has flown more higher, how do you feel? Devastated and frustrated, right! Now the "unreserved seats" seem a quota to me.  We all know what reservations have done to the talents of our country. The negative impact of the infamous reason for brain drain is never discussed in India in live debates. Why? Because it is like kicking the trusted vote banks of one's party in cost of the future of our country.  Imagine a person going to the same school with you from the kindergarten. You have same books, teachers, tuitions, clothes and resources. Your parents have the same bucks, they both pay tax to the government but when you both are applying for a same seat in a same college, he/she needs less marks to qualify due to being born in a different caste. Isn't it utterly ridiculous? The death of both hard work and talent, I say! The Constitution emphasizes ...

Neither do you know my roots nor do I know the corner of the world that you ...

Beliefs: Are We Treading a Right Path?

Image
Greetings!  The recent news of mayhem in Afghanistan gave me much food for thought. People wage wars to establish peace. What an irony! Will they get peace when most of the men and women die? Do they want to make religion a living hell for people? For ages, religion has been a way to liberate people from sadness but the Taliban  have handcuffed the freedom of soul. It seems that instead of liberating people they are tying a rope around a person. They have made the lives of innocent people stagnant as well as oppressive where the essence of freedom has ceased to flow. They want to take their country to zeniths of glory but how can a country progress where lady workers are asked to leave indefinitely and teaching of science and liberal ideas are banned? How can people be happy in their rule when half of the population's dreams are curbed under a hijab and they are not provided basic rights of education? They are blots in the name of the religion that teaches people about l...

Sports- Something Out of Blue!

Image
With the dazzle of Olympics slowly dimming away, I have finally found time to pen down my feelings. It was really a proud moment for me. Well, 7th August when Neeraj Chopra was throwing the javelin, I was sitting with my phone on one hand and my other fingers were literally crossed expressing so much of my anxiety as if I was playing the final games. Interestingly, Olympics worked like a strong magnet for me which stole away my online class breaks where I would be found busy checking the online dedicated blogs for the games.  I believe that this Olympics has cast a magical spell on me that has made me lose my mind in the charms of sports. I really laugh that the couch potato who not even likes moving a bit (being a bit hyperbolic here) has a feeling that sports run in her veins. This makes me somewhere admit that sports can be too addicting where people really vandalize stadiums and pass hate messages for some ethnical groups if their team loses. Sports can give an ordinary person ...

Need to Combat The Disaster that The Future Generation Faces At The Present Time

Image
Dear readers,  I hope you are doing good and are perfectly hale and hearty.  The recent newspaper headlines had a deep impact on me. It kept me thinking.  The indefinite closure of schools has washed away the smiles of so many children. It has eroded their dreams of a good life. Many unknown faces flashed before my eyes and I could feel their tinge of sadness. The number of predicted drop-outs is mind-blogging. This prediction is something that I saw before my own eyes in reality when I visited the market. The number of children hawking and acting as vendors numbed me to the core.  Whom will we blame? We can't blame the parents who sent their kids to schools for mid-day meals so that at least their children get a square meal in a day. Their own meager income is shrinking due to the pandemic. New advents of technology that is being used in education is a costly affair. It not only involves the one-time cost of a device but also the monthly charges of mobile data etc. I...

SCIENCE BEHIND POSITIVITY: PLACEBO EFFECT:

Image
Do you remember the day when going to a doctor or a simple hug from a loved ones had put a balm to your sufferings? Yes, I am talking about the classical Placebo effect, which is actually the single greatest indicator of the fact that your mind can heal yourself or at least provide comfort to a certain extent. ( The second instance of hugging can also be linked to increase in the concentration of oxytocin in blood). In my opinion it is the most fascinating theories in the fields of biology that I have ever encountered.  Now let me define it in scientific terms: Placebo effect is when an improvement of symptoms is observed, despite using a non-active substance. There were numerous instances that the non-active drug, known as placebo, has lowered pain in depressed souls and cancer patients. I am posting a link  if anyone really wants the proof, as it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone to believe anything on insufficient evidence.[ detailed explanation of Placebo's effec...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY...

Image
Dear Readers, Happy Mothers Day to all the cool moms out there!  Mothers are walking angels on Earth. They wake up before the alarm clock and sleep after everyone in the house dozes off. They are the sunshine which make the small buds blossom into scintillating flowers. Words can never be the manifestations of their care and selfless love.  Well, as child our mother is the first who hears the tumults of joy and mayhems of our life. But as time fades away and one moves out from his/her abode for career or jobs, the tender connection with one's mother becomes bleak. One becomes so workaholic that calls from one's mother becomes a response sheet. She remains in the same place, throughout the years, becoming more and more grey-haired, waiting for the whole day for that five-minute call. She frets for his/her beloved's welfare but does one show even 0.01% care for her?  Dear readers, remember that she is growing old too. I think that everyday is MOTHER'S DAY. Do we reall...

Hopelessness?

The small world of mine seems to have been dwindled into hopelessness. Online classes have been called off till further notice. The reason behind these doldrums is COVID-19, which has spread its pangs on the entire India. Pathetic indeed! On contemplating deeply, the small problems   issues that I face are a mere trifle in front of the hardships being faced by the entire world. Here I am worried about my career but some people don't have access to a proper square meal of a day. The wish to travel around and enjoy the bounties of nature seems quite selfish. There exist a myriad of people who are isolated within the four walls due to testing positive in the PCR test. The taken-for-granted gift of being with family with all members smiling and blossoming in good health is definitely an ultimate blessing in a world where families- the 'heartbeat' of an individual lie shattered due to loss and grief. My soul is tormented every time I hear the death of anyone-be it a stranger or...
